~ Galleries ~ Fine Art Portrait PhotographyWhat is Fine Art Portrait Photography? What distinguishes a "Portrait" from a snapshot? It all begins with the intent of the 'Snapshooter', the 'Photographer', and/or the 'Artist'. It ends with the "eye of the Beholder". Art and Fine Art are certainly subjective in nature. Today's Fine Art Portrait Photographer takes the station of the Fine Art Portrait Painter of centuries past. For both Portraitists the goals are to create images of their subjects, clients, patrons that are both artful and complimentary while at the same time true to their subjects. As with the oils of past generations, Fine Art Photographic Portraits are intended to be displayed in quality frames as wall art to be enjoyed by their owners and heirs for generations. At Paramount Photography Hawaii we use only the very finest quality, Fine Art Portrait papers and canvas. The portraits we make with these materials have a lab tested colorfast rating of up to 200+ years. Additionally, your portraits will be finished with an art guard coating to add UV protection and longevity, then mounted on an acid free mount board. You can be assured that your Fine Art Portraits from Paramount Photography Hawaii will retain their vibrancy and beauty for many generations! Art Portraiture vs Documentary PhotosAnyone with a camera can snap a picture. If you can turn on a light switch and focus, you qualify to operate a fixed-beam "portrait studio" such as found in the "Big Box" outlets. These snapshot portraits are valuable as inexpensive documentary portraits. Fine art portraiture reached a pinnacle during the 'High Renaissance" period with such masters as Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Titian, etc. With the advent of photographic science came the Photographic Portrait Artist. The traditions of fine art portraiture were passed from the painting masters on to photographic artists. In today's modern world, the magic of photographic science is available to everyone thanks to one-use, "disposable" cameras, and an abundance of one-hour labs. Today, everybody is able to enjoy making photographs, and try their hand at being artistic. As with any vocation, there are some people who are drawn to the art and science of portrait photography, who study it, and dedicate themselves to the artistry of photography as their life's work. I am one such person. ___SPC II Hawaii: Photography & Portrait ParadiseHawaii is the most photographed place in the world.
